SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

INTRODUCTION

Adventure and Motorsports Association Mokokchung (AMAM) is a motorsport body based in Mokokchung Town situated in the northern part of Nagaland. It was established on 1st June 2012 with an objective to promote motorsport in the district and the state as a whole. The association now consists of 43 members headed by the President.

 

BACKGROUND

Motorsports in Nagaland has its roots in Mokokchung where the earliest motor rallies in state were held in Mokokchung starting from the nineties.The first ever motor rally in the state was held in 1991 to commemorate the Centenary celebration of Mokokchung district. The event was organized by Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC). 

The second motor rally in the state was held here again at Mokokchung in 1999 to mark Nagaland’s 35 years of statehood, which was organized by the Mokokchung District Administration and the Mokokchung District Sports oCouncil (MDSC). 

The third motor rally, “Moatsü Festive Motor Rally” was held in 2006 which was organized by the Dibuia Tourism Committee in collaboration with the Mokokchung District Administration and the Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC) . 

Later, two consecutive motor rallies were held at Mokokchung in 2005 and 2006 respectively under the banner “Tour de Hills 1” and “Tour de Hills 2”. These motorsport events were organized by the Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC) in collaboration with the Mokokchung District Administration.

 

INCEPTION

As motorsports activities in the state and Mokokchung town in particular gained widespread acceptance and popularity amongst participants and the general populace, it was felt necessary that a proper Motorsports body needed to be set up in the district under the umbrella of the Mokokchung District Sports Council. Consequently, few likeminded motorsport enthusiasts came together and formed a new motorsports body in 2012 with affiliation to the MDSC under the name Adventure and Motorsports Association Mokokchung (AMAM).

Since its inception, AMAM has made all efforts to provide the best platform for participants that comes from within and outside the state. AMAM has also been a frontrunner in providing platforms for women categories. 

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

AMAM’s first event was in 15th December 2012 at the M-Fest which was organized by the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council (MDACC) wherein, a Two Wheeler TSD Rally within Mokokchung town was organized by AMAM. The rally had 24 participants.

The 1st Mokokchung AutoX was held on the 24th Aug 2013 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex. The event  proved to be great success with the participation of 58 motorsports enthusiasts from the state. The event was aimed to encourage and to give a platform to the local motorsports enthusiast.  

The 2nd Mokokchung AutoX & MotoX was held on the 22nd – 23rd August 2014 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex (ISC), Mokokchung. The event had 107 registered competitors from within the state as well as from the North East states of Assam and Meghalaya, who performed and competed in front of the 5000 plus strong crowd in the 2 day event.  A highlight of this event was the introduction of Digital Start-Stop display using infrared technology.

2015 marked the 125th Year Celebration of the Mokokchung District Administration. AMAM assisted in the Quasquicentennial Celebration by organizing a Jubilee Adventure Trail, a non competitive section for motorsports enthusiasts as well as the 3rd Tour de Hills, a three stage, two day competitive TSD rally for four wheelers. Both the Adventure Trail and TSD rally covered a distance of 112 kms.

The 3rd Mokokchung AutoX & MotoX was held on the 5th November 2015 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung. The event attracted 74 registered participants, both from the national and state level motorsport arena.

AMAM so far has successfully organized and managed 5 events in these last 6 years and is also actively participating at different national and state level motorsport competitions in the region.

The 4th Mokokchung AutoX & Moatsü Sprint May 2018 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex Mokokchung, (4th Mokokchung AutoX) and Yimchalu Farming Village (Moatsü Sprint 2018) to coinciding with the event with the premier Ao Naga festival, Moatsü. The event was well participated by 89 motorsports enthusiasts from Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya and Delhi.The positive response from the general populace gave the much needed encouragement to AMAM and has boldly set a new course to chart into new territories. And it is now evolving into one of the major motorsport event in the state which will definitely scale newer heights in the days to come.

The 5th  Mokokchung AutoX & Moatsü Sprint was held n the 3th & 5th May 2019 for both four  and two wheelers at Yimchalu Farming Village (Moatsü Sprint 2018) to coinciding with the event with the premier Ao Naga festival, Moatsü. All together 58 four wheelers and 25 two wheelers participated by  motorsports enthusiasts from Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya and Delhi. The event was successful by the active participation from the North-East as well as from the main land of India.

 

  30th National Road Safety Week, 2019

AMAM took part in 30th National Road Safety Week from 4th to 10th February 2019 which was organized by RTO, Mokokchung.

Due to covid-19 lockdown, no motorsports events could be held during 2020 and 2021. During this time, AMAM took the initiative to help the frontline workers viz; medical personnel and policemen by distributing food packs and by donating cash to the District covid task force under the District Administration.
